About Me

Cheryl Kampe

I have always been excited and interested in art!  All kinds of art. I started painting very young, but haven't been able to really dive into it until the last 15 years.  I started quilting and paper making but soon found myself in a beginning watercolor class and fell in Love with painting. Next I entered an intermediate class with experienced and talented artists.  I was in over my head but worked hard and developed my skills.  That group taught me about design, color theory, materials, and how to critique my work. It was a great building block for continuing my art journey.  I began taking workshops from artists that I admire.  I entered shows and started to sell my work. My first large solo show was 25 full sheet watercolor paintings at the Pacific Grove Art Center

I have worked in watercolor, pastels, acrylics, and oils.  Lately I've been working with oils and cold wax medium.

I continue to learn more about art every day as part of my practice and challenge myself both to improve my skill level and my creativity.

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

Inspiration

Early on I was inspired by Georgia O'Keefe, her ability to see and bring out the beauty of things around her  was very unique.  I love her color and design choices.  She was very experimental and to this day she inspires me to challenge myself.

Techniques

I use a variety of techniques.  When I started painting I used watercolor on cold press 300# watercolor paper. Starting with an underpainting to ground the painting. This helps establish darks and lights. Once dried I transfer the image and begin to paint layers of transparent paint. I allows for area to play with the paint to create some interest to the painting.
